This month, we wanted to highlight a tenant in one of our managed properties. Since opening their first 1,600 square foot warehouse in January 2020, Box Drop Bellingham has been an incredible success, and has experienced the largest growth for any single Box Drop location in the country. To date, they have already grown 887% in sales since their opening date, and they have been forced to expand their footprint twice—they now occupy a 13,500 square foot space at 425 Sequoia Drive in the Cordata neighborhood of Bellingham.
BoxDrop is a furniture company that specializes in selling name-brand mattresses and furniture at bargain prices. Because they sell furniture and mattresses directly form the manufacturer, they can discount products between 30-80% off retail pricing. BoxDrop is not like a typical retailer, and even prior to Covid they operate on appointments and curbside pick-up. Also different from other furniture retailers, is that their inventory is constantly changing. The business model relies heavily on an active social media campaign.
Taylor and Karly Harris, the co-owners of the BoxDrop Bellingham franchise, attribute much of their success to Karly’s marketing background, their determination, and the timing of the pandemic. Covid shutdowns began within a few months of their grand opening. Unlike other retailers that were unable to open their showrooms to the public, the BoxDrop appointment-based business model of advertising current inventory on social media platforms and offering curbside pickup allowed them to stay open and provide customers with a safe experience. There was also an incredibly strong demand from consumers for comfy furniture while everyone was in lockdown. BoxDrop Bellingham continues to grow and looks forward to adding dining room furniture to their inventory offering.
